I am currently an Assistant Professor in the Division of Computer Systems, within the Department of Information Technology at Uppsala University, Sweden. My current research focuses on optimization and learning for future wireless networks, specifically federated learning, vehicular communications, communication efficiency for distributed learning, and full-duplex communications.

I earned my Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden, in April 2019. Subsequently, I held the role of a postdoctoral researcher at KTH Royal Institute of Technology between 2019 and 2021. Following that, I had the privilege of being a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow, conducting research at Princeton University within the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, as well as at KTH Royal Institute of Technology in the Division of Network and Systems Engineering, during the period from 2022 to 2023.

I earned my B.Sc. (Hons.) and M.Sc. degrees in Telecommunications Engineering from the Federal University of Ceará], Brazil, in 2012 and 2014, respectively. I worked as a research engineer at the Wireless Telecommunication Research Group (GTEL), Brazil, from July 2012 to March 2015. During the autumn/winter of 2013-2014, I worked in an internship at Ericsson Research in Stockholm, Sweden. During the Spring/Fall 2018, I was a visiting researcher at Rice University in Houston, Texas, USA.

I have served as the Secretary for the Full-Duplex and Self-Interference Cancellation Emerging Technologies Initiatives (FD-ETI) between 2018-2021. I have been involved in the organization of many IEEE conferences and workshops, including co-chairing IEEE ICMLCN 2024, IEEE SECON 2022-2023 and IEEE GLOBECOM Workshop on Wireless Communications for Distributed Intelligence 2022-2023. I gave several tutorials at several IEEE flagship conferences, including ICASSP, PIMRC, ICC, and GLOBECOM.

My current research interests include

  • Federated learning

  • Communication efficiency for distributed learning

  • Vehicular communications

  • (Non)Convex optimization
