Olle Gällmo
I am a lecturer at the Department of Information Technology at Uppsala University, Sweden.
My duties at the departement include
- Program coordination and student counselling for the Swedish bachelor program in computer science and for "Datavetenskapligt program" (DVP).
- Teaching. I give an undergraduate course in
Machine Learning and a project course, Project CS, for computer science students. The project course has, for example, involved making robots (fully autonomous) play football (soccer, to you Americans). Lately, we have shifted our attention to applications for mobile telephony (games and positioning, for example). I also give guest
lectures in, for example, Artificial Intelligence, Computer
Games Development, Data Mining and Computer Architecture.
When time permits, I do research in machine learning
and natural
computation, i.e. computational methods derived from nature. This field includes methods like
artificial
neural networks, genetic
algorithms, reinforcement
learning and swarm intelligence.
In my spare time I play a lot of music - mainly traditional Swedish but also mediæval and renaissance music - on various forms of bagpipes and flutes. My main instrument is the traditional
Swedish bagpipes. In 2008 I was awarded the Swedish honorary title Riksspelman ("piper of the realm") for my work on this instrument. I also released a solo CD the same year. You can read more about this side of my life if you visit my
music page.
