Welcome to CSE32MS

General Information

Students taking this course might like to take a look at the existing WWW resources related to the material.

http://www.cs.latrobe.edu.au/~pears/CSE3MS/resources

This page will be updated with more material for the year 2000 course as soon as it becomes available. At the latest next week.

Since this is a slightly condensed course format this year people will need to keep up to date, and I will need all students to enroll for a lab time in groups of about 25 students per lab. Currently 3 lab times are listed on the University WWW timetable, and I hope that 2 more will become available by next week. Enrollment into the laboratory classes will be done after the first lecture on Monday July 17th.

Assignment

The assignment this year will be conducted in groups of four (4) students and will contribute 30% of the final mark. The assignment mark will be 50% on a demonstration of the product by the group to an examiner in a 30 minute time slot, the other 50% of the mark will be allocated on the basis of code style, and modularity, correctness, structure, documentation.

Lectures

The lecture syllabus which contains the topics that are to be covered in the course on a per lecture basis will be made available over the WWW and in the first lecture. There is no set course text, and students are expected to attend the lectures and take their own notes. Copies of lecture slides will not be available, indeed much of the course will be presented as WWW resource links, and Blackboard mediated class discussion. Theoretical material and class discussion are the main lecture topics, and it the content of these sessions that will be examined in the examination at the conclusion of the semester.

Laboratories

Laboratory work is related to the assignment and lectures and is helpful in completing the project, however there are no marks for the labs or lab exercises in this course. The practical skills required to complete the assignment can be learned by attending the Laboratories, and reading the online resources. These skills will be touched on in lectures but will not be covered in detail.

I look forward to seeing you all in the first lecture

Monday 17th July 13:00 in WLT 1

Cheers,

Arnold
