Abstract:

After a short motivating introduction in the form of microscopy movies I will present a new method for the computational modeling of populations of living cells. The method has been designed to satisfy several non-trivial constraints: it supports both an agent-based and a grid-based perspective, it is free of grid-artefacts, and, importantly, is continuous in time, hence it may be consistently coupled to other time-continuous method. It also happens to be extremely scalable as demonstrated by a serial implementation in Matlab which readily reaches 20,000+ cells. I will illustrate the method with several numerical examples and indicate ongoing work.
