Design optimization for wave propgation problems by material distribution Acoustics and electromagnetics: same same or different?

By using design techniques, it is possible to design transmission-efficient frequency devices both in the case of acoustic and electromagnetic wave propagation. This talk comprises a short description of the full design chain: starting with mathematical modeling of the wave propagation problem; continues with intermediate links, such as strategies to perform the numerical optimization and numerical results for various objective formulations, including the optimization of acoustic loudspeaker horns and electromagnetic ultrawideband antennas; and ending with experimental validation for the loudspeaker horn.
