Numerical climate and weather prediction models are primary tools for understanding climate change and for making predictions for the future. The physical basis as well as the numerical techniques employed in such models will be described. A particular emphasis will be put on the description of atmospheric flows, this is the model component that requires most intense computations and where innovative numerical techniques have been applied. Results derived from climate simulations will also be presented.
