Abstract:

JAXA (Japan Aerospace eXploration Agency) was established October 2003 as a public R&D organization for aerospace fields in Japan. The former organizations merged into JAXA are NASDA (NAtional Space Development Agency), NAL (National Aerospace Laboratory) and ISAS (Institute of Space and Aeronautical Sciences). Now JAXA covers from practical engineering development projects like satellite lauching to research supportingthe projectsand basic research in sceience and engineering related with aerospace technology, cosmology etc.

Institute of Serospace Technology conducts research activity mainly in the field of aerospace engineering. Research on CFD and other numerical simlulation is done minly in Computational Science Research Group.

The lecture introduces the research activity in IAT of JAXA. The following is introduced. (1) simlulation for combustion phenomena (2) simlulation for sound propagation and accoustic vibration (3) large scale direct numerical simulation for turbulence (4) applied mathematics and numerics (5) computer and network architecture
