Abstract:

Accurate prediction of electromagnetic propagation is becoming increasingly important to application areas such as wireless technology, antenna analysis and design, electromagnetic compatibility and radar suppression. In this talk we focus on transient finite-element methods that represent powerful techniques for solution of the Maxwell equations. The strengths and weaknesses of finite element methods are discussed. An efficient hybrid finite element - finite difference method is presented. Examples from the aircraft and antenna industries show the potential of the hybrid method for solving large scale industrial problems.
