High-order nonlinear artificial viscosity methods for magnetohydrodynamics

Abstract:

In this seminar, several high-order shock-capturing techniques for finite element approximations of ideal magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) will be presented. The methods use continuous Lagrange polynomials in space and explicit Runge-Kutta schemes in time. Several theoretical results in the continuous level are derived. The numerical experiments show that the proposed methods have a high order of accuracy for smooth problems and capture strong discontinuities accurately for non-smooth problems.
