Solving engineering problems with solution procedures based on RBF-generated finite difference method

Abstract:

Meshless methods have in recent years gained traction in the field of computational mechanics and have started replacing finite element and finite volume based methods in some areas. In the seminar, the application of RBF-FD method to problems in process engineering will be presented, focusing on numerical challenges that arise in such applications. This will be followed by presentation of the techniques developed to stabilize the solution procedure of advection-diffusion equation and an innovative approach used to stabilize the solver for nonlinear problems in solid mechanics.
