Abstract:

Ericsson is a major provider of technology and services to telecom operators. Ericsson enables the Networked Society with efficient real-time solutions that allow us all to study, work and live our lives more freely, in sustainable societies around the world. Our offering comprises services, software and infrastructure within Information and Communications Technology for telecom operators and other industries. Today more than 40 percent of the world?s mobile traffic goes through Ericsson networks and we support customers? networks servicing more than 2.5 billion subscribers. Ericsson Research conducts cutting-edge research in applied machine learning and artificial intelligence to create data driven, intelligent, non-fragile systems for automation, augmentation, and amplification. Ericsson Research has a long history of successful academic collaboration, where new ideas and methods have been turned into innovative technology and business opportunities. In this talk, Jörgen Gustafsson and Andreas Johnsson, will provide an overview the Ericsson Research organization, our approaches, and ongoing activities within the research area Machine Intelligence and Automation. The talk will touch upon machine-learning challenges and approaches in domains spanning from traditional telecommunication, to media, manufacturing, and IoT. Jörgen Gustafsson is a research manager at Ericsson Research, heading a research team in the area of machine learning. The research is applied to networks, media, operations support systems/business support systems, IoT and more. He joined Ericsson in 1993. He is co-rapporteur of Question 14 in ITU-T Study Group 12. He holds an M.Sc. in computer science from Linköping University, Sweden. Andreas Johnsson is a master researcher at Ericsson Research, in the area of applied machine learning. His research interests span machine learning, network performance and measurements, cloud management, and IoT. In 2017 he was a guest researcher at Uppsala University (CoRE/UNO groups) working on IoT observability. He received his MSc in computer science and mathematics from Uppsala University in 2002, and his PhD degree from Mälardalen University, 2007.
