Self-optimization in the cloud

Abstract:

Today's clouds provide a rich set of tuning capabilities that enables fine-grained control of application and infrastructure provisioning. The elastic nature of cloud applications combined with rapid resource provisioning thus makes it easy to achieve high performance as such, but additional objectives such as cost, energy-efficiency, and/or resource utilization must be taken into account. This talk will discuss various aspects of application and infrastructure self-optimization in clouds, with particular attention to scenarios with multiple goals. Variability, in workloads as well as application behavior and composition is another key driver for this work.
