To give knowledge about modern computer architecture and parallel computer design. To give programming skills for multiprocessor systems.
Course content
Memory systems; caches and virtual memory, profiling and optimizing for the memory system, statistical modelling. Multiprocessors; coherence and memory models, implementing MPs, large MPs and their implementation, MP synchronization. Parallel programming; local name space parallelization, global name space parallelization, OpenMP programming. Future directions; technology trends, CMP, SMT.
