Climbing Doctor 2004

A proud new doctor in philosophy.
Summer is finally here after a hectic spring. I bought myself a small digital camera (Konica Minolta Dimage X21) to abuse while climbing, it is really small so the quality is not outstanding. This page contains what I got from my first three days of climbing with it...

Gåseborg

Sport climbing at too high grades. We did a 5c, 6a, and a 6b before humiliating ourselves toproping a 6c+. This crag is between Uppsala and Stockholm but our route finding driving there was horrible :(

Me on the 5c. Extremly well bolted and quite easy.

Torbjörn leading the 6a in the land of tilted trees. ;)

Torbjörn nailing the overhanging crux on Blitz(6b).

Me getting my feet in place to accomplish the same feat.

Torbjörn top-roping a 6c+, it was evil.

Not everyone takes climbing too seriously. Thanks Erik for taking the photos.

Grönbrinksberget

This crag contains a majority of 25-30m long cracks that are led completly in traditional style. A fantastic place in my opinion. Located south of Stockholm it is a bit too far away for my taste, unfotuneatly.

Katarina abseiling down 25+m on her rope.

It was pretty cold down in the shadows, but not wet as the rumour had it. Katarina quickly scurried up the face.

Me coming up after...

I lead something rather easy as warm up, and took time to place my giant friend my alpine friends gave me for present.

Katarina was not slowed down noticably by the heavy friend.

This, however, slowed her down ;)... 12:e mekanismen (5+). It is a slopy overhang with delicate feet for a few meters. As usually I got to lead the "right" route...

After some time thinking (no numbers ;-), she makes it admirably!

Someone is hiding in the picture... Can it be the one who is responsible for the rope mess?

Me leading Uffes under (5+), taking some photos to regain strenght after a sterneous section.

Katarina looks as happy as me to not having to lead.

Tunaberg och Stendörren

Tunaberg is located outside Nyköping south of Stockholm. Excellent to go from Grönbrinksberget and camp at the top of the crag. Even though I hade some problem getting my gear up.

Katarina abseiling down along Hugo (5-) 10m, which is also the name of my nephew!

Me leading Hugo, or probably having led. Katarina got to lead Hugos friend Josefin(5-) which was also fine, but felt short after yesterday's 30m routes.

Katarina abseiling down next to Stålfingrar (7) which was ridiculously hard, hence top-roped.

She got up easily after I failed for 10 minutes to make even the first move. (I finally made it, by doing the same desperate layback as her!)

I was pretty tired after three days of climbing and we decided to look what "Stendörren" looked like nowdays. It is a nature reserve at the coast. (I grew up in these parts of Sweden so I had been there a few times, but the last was >10 yrs ago).

Trying to mimic a photo from Castle Hill, I happily got my stinky feet wet to pose on this rock.
