Grand finale summer 2003

This project was only possible by the participation of belayer Cecilia "Ugglan" Johansson and photographer Torbjörn Lindgren. Thanks for a great trip!

The reason for this short trip, less than three hours from work and back again was that I felt it was a shame that we climed so little on Uppsalas highest crag this summer. Predikstolen sports a number of routes that are far too hard for me, but there is one I thought was possible, Högmässan (6, trad+1 bolt). Torbjörn has lead it a couple of times and recommended it to me. I tried the start on top rope last year and believed that I would be able to manage the end (which I only partly correctly remembert to be an easy slab crack).

The try was a bit special for me since I haven't led any trad or mixed above grade 6-, the possibility of falling on my placements was more real than ever. But my worries was taken to a different dimension when Torbjörn suggested that I should celebrate it by climbing in tails; a tribute to this great summer. That would not do since my tails are a bit too tight, but at least I lived upp to the challange and brought a shirt, tie, and jacket! I also added my "Pet Shop Boys hair" (from the Nightlife period) to my helmet. So, what is the result of stupidity+stupidity?

You're an absolute _dag_ Jacob! But I love the pics nonetheless.

Torbjörn abseiled to a good spot. Jacob preparing for the styled climb.

Someone gets hungry after he flops the first nut.

Cec is prepared for the worst in here new TDB Alpint T-shirt.

Everyone who doubts Jacob's placements feel happy about the clipped bolt.

The horisontal crack at this position allows for heaps of placements without blocking the hold. Unfortuneatly my feet are not good enough to hang here forever. Must go on.

This vertical crack was a surprise to me, I remebered the end without it and felt weak. Oh, how I hated the width at the upper part of this crack. Maybe someone graded the route correctly after all.

No, there are no holds up left, but one has to try.

Not my proudest moment, but resorting to "seal style" proved to be my way out of the crack.

My seal style move in a better light.

I did it!!! No hanging, no falling, an easy walk up to the top from here.
