Climbing

Climbing for fun, for adrenaline, or just plain stupidity? I don't care. It has been quite some time since I went up to Kebnekaise with TDB Alpint (Sverker Holmgren) and unbelievably enough I liked it even though it was colder and wetter than I usually put up with. In December 2001 I joined the exploading indoor climbing crowd and got stuck, probably much thanks to my advantageous length/weight ratio allowing me to perform well without any technique. Work collaborator Torbjörn Lindgren pushed me along a steep learning curve on the indoor wall, where co-rookie Cecilia Johansson kept me company (and still do to my great pleasure). But Uppsalas limited number of bike-distance crags kept me from understanding the outdoor walls. A couple of months work in Sydney changed all that with the help of Chad, Craig, and Tony.

The ideal climbing situation would be to trad lead up a mountain without prior knowledge of it. I will hopefully never attempt any such thing. Being outdoor and preferably in a remote location without more people than you bring along serves as a good current goal (but trad leading is beautiful).
